That night dinner will be in a fine restaurant, and the next morning you have a tour of the city, complete with cyclo ride around the old quarter, and a traditional water-puppet show. You depart Hanoi for Halong Bay and a luxury overnight cruise of this spectacular natural wonder of thousands of limestone islands set in emerald-green water. Back in Hanoi you take a flight to the ancient imperial city of Hue where a tour of this historic ancient capital awaits. You also take a cruise on the Perfume River to the Thien Mu (Heavenly Lady) Pagoda, and the tombs of the Nguyen emperors. Then you take a drive down the coast to picturesque Hoi An, an architectural treasure with hundred year old buildings lining narrow winding streets. While in Hoi An you also visit My Son, the site of the ruins of the capital of the Cham civilization. There is also a cooking class where you learn how to prepare Vietnam cuisine. We drive to Da Nang for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. From Saigon you head to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels built by the Viet Cong. You also take a trip to Vinh Long in the Mekong Delta to cruise the waterways and have a Homestay with a local family. In Saigon you also have a full day tour of the city to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the economic hub of Vietnam. Saying goodbye to Saigon, you fly to Siem Reap to explore perhaps the greatest ancient temple complex in the world, Angkor. You visit all the major temples, and even some minor ones, and enjoy a spectacular sunset from a hilltop temple. The last stop on your fabulous tour is Phnom Penh, the fast growing capital of Cambodia. Then all too soon it will be time for your journey in these amazing lands to come to an end. Day 1: Hanoi Arrival After your arrival in Hanoi you will be welcomed by our professional staff, and transferred to your accommodation for check-in. That evening you will dine in a fine restaurant in the city. Overnight in Hanoi hotel. Dinner included. Day 2: Hanoi City Tour In the morning after breakfast we pay a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and we also see Ho Chi Minh's house on stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda, and the Presidential Palace. We also visit the Temple of Literature which was Vietnam's first University. Then, in the afternoon we go to the intriguing Ethnology Museum, followed by a 1-hour cyclo (pedicab) ride around the old quarter of Hanoi. In the evening we are treated to a traditional, and uniquely Vietnamese water-puppet show. Overnight in Hanoi hotel. Breakfast & Lunch included. Note: The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is open from Tuesday to Thursday and on weekends from 8am to 11pm. It is closed on Monday and Friday. The mausoleum is also closed for two months of the year, usually October and November, for maintenance. Day 3: Hanoi - Halong Bay You have breakfast in the hotel, and then depart for a trip to the World Heritage site of Halong Bay. When we arrive, you board your luxury cruise boat for an unforgettable cruise on this fantastic seascape of thousands of limestone islands set in emerald-green water. We explore spectacular limestone caves, swim from our cruise boat, and go kayaking to explore secluded parts of the bay. While cruising the bay, delicious meals are served onboard, and you stay overnight in your deluxe cabin. Overnight onboard. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included. Day 4: Halong Bay – Hanoi In the morning you awake to a spectacular view of the bay, after a relaxing night onboard. After a delicious breakfast in the ship's restaurant, you get ready to more exploring of this amazing place. Today you visit Luon Cave, Turtle Islet, Human Head Islet, and Saddle Islet. After a relaxing lunch onboard, you disembark, and we drive back to Hanoi. Overnight in Hanoi hotel. Breakfast & Lunch included. Day 5: Hanoi – Hue (Domestic Flight) This morning after breakfast we drive to the airport where you catch a one-hour flight to the ancient imperial city of Hue. As always, when you arrive, you are met by our staff, and transferred to your hotel. Then we are off to see the sights of this ancient city, and you explore the Citadel, the Imperial City, and the Forbidden Purple City. Overnight in Hue hotel. Breakfast included. Day 6: Hue This morning we go to the Perfume River to embark on a riverboat journey. On our trip we visit the Thien Mu Pagoda (Heavenly Lady Pagoda), one of most well-known and best loved pagodas in Vietnam. Then we continue our river cruise to the elaborate Tu Duc tombs of the Nguyen emperors. On our return to Hue we browse the Dong Ba Market, and in the evening we dine at a local restaurant. Overnight in Hue hotel. Breakfast and Dinner included. Day 7: Hue - Hoi An Today we drive down the coast through the high Hai Van Pass with its spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean on our way to marvelous Hoi An. Along the way we also visit the Cham Museum, China Beach and the marble village. When we arrive in Hoi An, we check in to the hotel. For several centuries Hoi An was a thriving river port, with traders coming from all over the world. The architectural influences are from different cultures, and some parts of the city remain as they were hundreds of years ago with many old building lining the narrow winding streets. That afternoon we take a walking tour of the old town visiting the Fukien Assembly Hall, the 200 year old Tan Ky house, the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Hoi An Museum, and some of the many handicraft workshops. After the tour there will be time for you to do some shopping. Overnight in Hoi An hotel. Breakfast included. Day 8: Hoi An Free Day Today you have the whole day to explore this most interesting and fascinating town. This is your chance to get out on your own to wander the narrow lanes and the river-front with many small cafes and shops of all description. This is a photographer’s paradise. You can go shopping, and go to the nearby beautiful beach as well. Ho An has also become know as a place where you can get tailor-made clothes ready the next day. Overnight in Hoi An hotel. Breakfast included. Day 9: Hoi An - My Son After breakfast today we drive out to visit My Son, the site of the ruins of the capital of the Cham civilization. Dating from the 4th to the 12th centuries, Champa ruled much of central Vietnam. This site has been compared to other ancient sites in Southeast Asia, but on a much smaller scale.Unfortunately it suffered damage from the bombing of the Vietnam War. We return to Hoi An at noon for lunch. We also take part in a cooking class showing us how to prepare the best Vietnamese and local Hoi An specialties. Overnight in Hoi An hotel. Day 10: Hoi An - Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City (Domestic Flight) - Cu Chi Tunnels Today after breakfast we take the short drive to the airport at Da Nang for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. When you arrive in HCMC, you are welcomed by our staff and taken to your hotel. Then we head for the Cu Chi Tunnels which were constructed by the Viet Cong during the war. After touring this fascinating remnant of the war, we return to Ho Chi Minh City, and there will time for you to explore this bustling economic center of Vietnam. Overnight in Saigon hotel. Breakfast included. Day 11: Ho Chi Minh - Vinh Long, Mekong Delta Home-stay Today we head for Vinh Long town in the Mekong Delta. There we board a boat to navigate through the maze of intricate waterways of the delta. We have lunch at a local house, and stop to visit various cottage industries during our trip. You spend the night at the house a local family to experience the lifestyle and customs of the Mekong delta. Overnight with local family. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included. Day 12: Vinh Long – Ho Chi Minh City After breakfast, our day begins with a boat ride along the waterways of the Mekong Delta to the Cai Be floating market, one of the best floating markets in the region. After our visit to the floating market, that we take the opportunity to see how local products are made. That afternoon we travel back to Ho Chi Minh, and after we arrive, the rest of the day will be free time. Overnight in Saigon hotel. Breakfast and Lunch included. Day 13: Ho Chi Minh City Tour In the morning today we start off for a full day of touring the city; including visits to the Notre Dame Cathedral, the General Post Office, the former Presidential Palace, the Museum of War Remnants, and the Ben Thanh Market. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh hotel. Breakfast, Lunch included. Day 14: Ho Chi Minh City - Siem Reap (International Flight) Today we say goodbye to Vietnam, and after breakfast we head to the airport for a short flight to Siem Riep. When you land, you will be met by our staff, and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon we begin our exploration of the temples of Angkor with a visit to the Rolous group of temples located 13km from Siem Reap. Then we return to Siem Reap to view a spectacular sunset from the hilltop temple of Phnom Bakheng. Overnight in Siem Reap hotel. Breakfast included. Day 15: Siem Reap - Angkor Temples After breakfast in the hotel, we drive to explore the Pre Rup Temple and the East Mebon Temple. We then visit the beautiful Banteay Srey Temple. In the afternoon we have to opportunity to explore what is perhaps the most famous religious structure in the world, the majestic and breathtaking Angkor Wat. This is a truly memorable experience you will not forget. Overnight in Siem Reap hotel. Breakfast included. Day 16: Siem Reap - Angkor Temples This morning we visit other Angkor temples, including the temple of Ta Prohm, called the jungle temple because it has been left unrestored. We then head to Banteay Kdei and the nearby baray of Sra Srang. In the afternoon we explore the large, ancient capital complex of Angkor Thom. Overnight in Siem Reap hotel. Breakfast included. Day 17: Siem Reap – Phnom Penh In the morning after breakfast we travel by private transport to Phnom Penh the capital of Cambodia. When you arrive, you check into your hotel, and then in the afternoon we visit Wat Phnom, the hill from which Phnom Penh got it’s name. Overnight in Phnom Penh hotel. Breakfast included. Day 18: Phnom Penh City Tour Today we start in the morning for a full day of sightseeing of this energetic and bustling city . Our tour includes the National Museum, the Royal Palace with the Silver Pagoda, the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the horrific killing fields at Choeung Ek , and the famous Russian Market for browsing and shopping. Overnight in Phnom Penh hotel. Breakfast included. Day 19: Phnom Penh Departure After breakfast in the hotel, it is time to get ready for your departure transfer. This is the conclusion of your trip, and it is time to leave Cambodia, and say farewell to the two cultures and peoples you now have a much better knowledge of, and appreciation for.
